CORPORATE TRAUMA PREVENTION AND RECOVERY Just like a person, an organization can suffer from trauma. Organization trauma may be defined as anything external or internal which causes stress or dysfunction in an organization, or which depresses its ability to respond effectively to its stated purpose.
Violence, embezzlement, layoffs, diversity incidents or certain kinds of interpersonal aggression -- including the nastier forms of corporate politics -- may leave an organization functioning in a state of shock. Dr. Chester prefers to train and inoculate an organization in advance of these kinds of incidents, but is also available to help speed recovery after such incidents.
This can be done proactively by providing training on topics like stress reduction, resilience building and employee retention, taking into account the organization’s particular needs and goals. Prevention of work place violence which includes sexual harassment/assault, bullying and spillover from domestic violence is also a critical topic that affects organizations. Providing knowledge on these problems to employees in advance can help employees feel safe in and out of the office.
Should an incident occur, Dr. Chester is able to work with the organization to process the incident, make referrals as needed and speed healing. All work with the organization is sensitive to the demographics and culture of the selected employee group(s) as well as the organizational culture and mission.
